First, let me introduce the Indiego to those who don't know what it is. It's a way of advertising yourself by advertising others. A nice way to get traffic to your blog for free! The only requirement right now* is that you have a blog. The way it works is that you enter a piece of HTML on your blog and the ad rotation is activated. See below an example of what the indiego ad looks like:
The ad rotation will change showing up all the ads registered on the Indiego. So people visiting your blog will see an ad for another indie member, might like what they see, click on the ad, go to their site and maybe purchase their items! And guess what, it works!
A few months ago I received a message on my Etsy shop from fellow Indiegoer:
"I just want to let you know I saw your ad
on a blog and fell in love with your bags."
It has worked so far and now we're going to make it even better! We have a very nice community to take care off and we will do our best to expand it. A few new things to come:
- A BLOG just for the Indiego! With news on what's up, we will write a bit on who is being Spotlighted , about Indiego "heroes"; people that have done a little extra to help us out, and of course, we will have a lot of indiego ads on the site. Hopefully, will get this up and running soon.
*- A way to advertise without having a blog! Members will be able to advertise their shop, whether it is their personal website, Etsy store or Dawanda store etc. To be fair to the other members with ads on their blogs, this will be possible through membership for a small amount per month. Trust us, the amount will be tini-tiny. So you can still keep the "Add 5 sites" allowance and now you will be able to ad your shop. Neat huh? Oh, and even if you are already advertising through your blog, you can add your shop for the small fee per month.
