I find it so special buying something handmade. You know that someone put their thought and effort into it. All the materials were in their house, and then with a little imagination moulded into something beautiful. Definitely a better image than a factory with rows of people sitting above sewing machines... And most indie designers charge little for their effort. Even this market has become competitive now. When you buy something from the big brands, you're paying the brand, the name. If I'm going to to cough up the dough I'm going to do it for the effort that was put into the product. Not a name. One of the most inspiring quotes I've read by another etsian was "when people buy your stuff, they buy your personality".

Oh I couldn't agree with you more! I've always loved to make thing and buy things handmade, but it gets more and more important to me everyday. We need to go back to having a personal relationship with our business dealings when we can--support real people like ourselves when we can--help the "little guy" when we can.
